Exterior lighting design

During design and dismantling work it was found that a broad reconstruction of the entire system was required. The old pipe works showed significant wear, rust and deposits. Manifolds and globe valves were replaced with new stainless steel (material number 1.4571) manifolds and butterfly valves. Also, the filling station to fill the storage tanks from road tankers has been replaced. The SCADA system of the entire facility has been replaced by a new Simatic S-7-300. The operation is now up to date and easily accessible via a touch screen on which the entire plant is depicted with all its technical and operational information. A network server function allows display and change of all parameters on mobile devices (smartphone), and to operate and maintain the plant from the outside. Through this remote maintenance the availability of the plant and of aircraft deicing operations increase significantly.

the apron and hangars

The type 1 aircraft deicing fluid (ADF type 1) is stored at 40°C, and at about 75°C, but it decomposes at temperatures above 80, 85°C. To avoid this in the new plant, the control of district heating from the Hamburg airport was changed so that the inacceptable heating is avoided even at high supply temperatures.

During design a 3-D data model of the entire facility was set up, from which all the drawings, isometrics and piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID) were generated. The storage tanks were designed as tank containers and prefabricated, insulated and supplied to the site with all the connections ready. On only two mornings all 11 tanks could be placed with a crane.
